Through memory flashbacks accessed by hypnotic regression, this film depicts the alleged UFO abduction of Barney and Betty Hill (played by James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons) on September 19th, 1961 in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Upon returning from a trip into Canada, Betty and Barney are plagued by crippling anxiety and nightmarish visions. Turning to Dr. Benjamin Simon (Barnard Hughes) for help in piecing together the happenings of that night, the Hills enter into therapy and independently relate a most unearthly tale. Also with Dick O'Neill and Lou Wagner. Based on the book The Interrupted Journey by John G. Fuller.

The alien leader was portrayed by Lou Wagner, whose height is 5'2".

Following a brief battle with colon cancer, Jose Ferrer passed away in Coral Gables, Florida on January 26, 1992. He was 80.

Burgess Meredith died from complications of Alzheimer's disease and melanoma on September 9, 1997, at his Malibu, California home. He was 89.
